FACT, SANDAG, and Caltrans Announces Launch of RideFACTNOW Service

Second Year of On-Demand Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle Services for the San Diego Region

FACT Inc. (Facilitating Access to Coordinated Transportation)—a non-profit organization with a mission to improve specialized mobility in San Diego County—announced the launch of the second year of an essential transportation service RideFACTNOW, in collaboration with SANDAG (San Diego Association of Governments), and Caltrans.

RideFACTNOW offers on-demand wheelchair accessible vehicle services for individuals in the San Diego region with mobility limitations. The program provides same-day service within the hour and offers wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAV).

“RideFACTNOW stands out for its uniqueness, affordability, and convenience by providing our community with mobility options that meet their needs,” said SANDAG Board member and Solana Beach Councilmember Jewel Edson. “We look forward to seeing the program grow and helping improve quality of life for everyone.”

SANDAG’s Access for All Grant Program (AFA) Cycle 2 awarded FACT $2.3 million to fund RideFACTNow. Caltrans also awarded FACT more than $770,000 toward the purchase of a new fleet of wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAV) though its Federal Transit Administration program.

“We’re proud to partner with United Taxi Workers of San Diego (UTWSD) in providing RideFACTNOW service to San Diegans to the Airport,” said Susan Hafner, FACT’s Board Chair “As San Diego’s senior population continues to grow, the need for accessible, affordable transportation has never been greater. FACT helps persons with disabilities avoid isolation, maintain independence, and enjoy a higher quality of life—reminding us that mobility is not just about movement, but about connection, belonging, and opportunity.”

“Keeping people moving is what we do at Caltrans,” said Ann Fox, Caltrans District 11 Director. “Caltrans is proud to provide critical funding for these vehicles to increase accessibility and mobility to those who need it most.”

“Every person deserves the freedom to move safely and with dignity, regardless of age or ability,” said San Diego Councilmember Raul Campillo. “When I served as Vice Chair on SANDAG’s Transportation Committee, my top priority was ensuring that FACT could continue providing affordable rides to our seniors and neighbors with disabilities. I’m thrilled to see RideFACTNOW thriving again—connecting people to medical appointments, family, and community life at a time when transportation and other costs are already so expensive—and proud that the reforms we made helped keep this vital service on the road.”

RideFACTNOW brings riders to their destinations safely and punctually, thanks to FACT’s extensive experience in providing specialized transportation. Common reasons for using this service are for medical appointments, grocery shopping, family gatherings, and other essential visits.

On September 21, 2023, Circulate San Diego awarded the 2023 Momentum Award for enhancing “Public Transit Connectivity”. CPUC has recognized service as a “star”, among its peers.
